It is important to understand the necessity to take care of our skin at an early age. The most important thing to learn is the simple task of washing your face of all makeup before bedtime. This is in my opinion a great habit to commit to every day.
It is very important to me to convey the necessity to take care of our mature skin as we age. Here are a few pointers to help keep your skin soft and supple. I know I will never give up finding new creams and toners to do so.

Fighting Against Age Spots
Age spots are caused because of exposure to the sun. Since our hands are in the sun more than any other part of our body; with the exception of our faces, that’s where most age spots occur.
That puts those brown-looking spots right on display for everyone to see; every time we hand something to another person, pay for our groceries and hold hands with our significant other. Those spots just yell out AGE as loud as they can.
Tips to help rid age spots
So, what can you do about them to make them use their quiet voice when you put your hands out there for everyone to see? There are actually a few things that might help keep new ones at bay. And lighten up the ones you currently have.
- Every day when you leave, just like you do on your face, apply sunscreen to the tops of your hands. It’s also wise to do it at least 2 other times throughout the day; to give you protection all day long. Use a sunscreen that’s at least 50 SPF and contains zinc. Zinc is water-resistant. So it will stay on the best even when you have to wash your hands throughout the day.
- If you’ve been in the sun, even if you applied sunscreen all day, spread vitamin E oil to your hands. Because it’s an antioxidant that can help to prevent age spots from occurring.
- Use aloe vera gel that you get right from that plant you have in your kitchen. Cut a leaf and squeeze the gel onto the age spots. An aloe vera plant has chemicals in it. It will help get rid of dead cells and promote new, healthy cells to grow. Use it one or two times per day for the best results.
- Fresh lemon juice is recognized a lot for bleaching and that magic works well on age spots too. Just rub fresh lemon juice on your age spots before you go to bed at night. And then rinse it off when you get up in the morning. You’ll start to see the spots fade in a few weeks.
- The same is true for onion juice as it is for lemon juice. The lemon juice will smell better, but in a pinch, onion juice will do just as well. Use the juice from a lemon. Rub it on your age spots before bed and rinse it off the next morning when you get up.
- Use a hand scrub at least once a week on your hands – this will exfoliate the skin on your hands. You’ll get rid of old, dead skin cells and promote the growth of newer and healthier cells to grow. Scrubs work just as well on your hands as they do on your face.
Just because you’ve started noticing age spots on your hands doesn’t mean they have to stay there. Use the tips listed above. Most of which are things you can find in your kitchen cabinet – to help reduce those annoying age spots.
Help Control Crepe Skin

Crepe skin’s name comes from the way it looks. As you age your skin will wrinkle and thin and look just like crepe paper. UGH! While our skin does become more wrinkled and thinner as we age, there are some things you can do to help keep that crepe skin from taking over your body.
what are the causes
The first thing to know though is what causes crepe skin. Sun damage is a huge contributor to crepe skin. Spending too much time out in the sun without any type of sunblock can wreak havoc on your skin. It becomes wrinkled and as you age it will begin to thin. Another thing that causes it is simply the aging process. Our skin becomes less elastic and our bodies don’t produce the oils that they did when we were younger.
protect yourself from the sun
So, what can you do about it? Always, no matter what your age, protect your skin from the sun. The sun causes more damage to the skin than anything else. Granted, there are other pollutants in the air. If you smoke it will show on your skin. But protecting yourself from the sun can be the biggest help in preventing crepe skin in the future.
moisturize skin
You can also moisturize your skin every, single day, several times a day. Keeping the skin moist can help keep it from becoming dried up. Every night before you go to bed you should moisturize completely. Since your skin goes a long time without any moisture when you sleep.
stay hydrated
Staying hydrated is very helpful in keeping the crepes away. If you stay hydrated and keep moisturizer on your skin you are less likely to experience crepe skin later on in your life. Our bodies are made mostly of water and when we don’t have enough in our body, it shows on the skin.
eat lots of fruits
You can also eat foods that are high in antioxidants – like many fruits. It’s not a quick fix to what’s going on with your skin now. But by maintaining a healthy diet, high in vitamin C, you might be able to do some damage control for later. Check for foods also that are high in Omega3 fatty acids.
soap dries your skin
Pay attention to the types of soap you use on your face and body. Are you using soap that might dry your skin out more than it should? Are you using a body wash that will create more dry skin and not moisturize after you’ve gotten out of the shower? If so, you might want to switch brands and find an all-natural cleanser to use from now on.
vitamin a in skin cream
Make sure the moisturizer you are using contains retinol or vitamin A. This can not only help to keep moisture in your skin, but it will also plump it up so it looks younger and less wrinkled. Using homemade scrubs can also get rid of dead skin, uncovering healthier, younger-looking skin.
supplements
You can take supplements with vitamins A and C and also Omega3 if you have trouble getting them in your diet for some reason. They can be purchased over-the-counter. But make sure they are made with natural ingredients. And always check with your doctor before starting any type of supplement – particularly if you’re taking any type of medication.
Sagging and Jiggling and Wrinkles – Oh My!
As we age these are all things that we have to contend with. There are parts of us that sag and jiggle that never did before. Every time we look in the mirror there seems to be a new wrinkle that pops up – UGH!
face exercises
However, there are some “face” exercises that you can do that can help lift, firm and straighten out some of those sags, jiggles and wrinkles. We tend to do a lot of exercising for the rest of our body to keep it toned and healthy, so why not do the same when it comes to our face?

Many of us suffer from saggy jowls as we age and my, oh, my – they do make you look much older than your years. But twice a day for five days with one exercise can make those jowls start to firm up.
try this:
Sit up straight and hold your head back. Stick your chin out as far as you can and you’ll feel it start to tighten up. Stay like that for about ten seconds and then let your chin relax. Do this same rep ten times and in just a few days you’ll start to see some results.
The best part is, you can do this face exercise anywhere and at any time.
another idea you can try:
Another idea is to open your mouth as wide as you can – like when you yawn and then closing your mouth as slowly as possible without letting your teeth touch back together. You can do this ten times in a row and will see an improvement in your jowls.
Do you have one of those necks that jiggle? Yeah, a lot of people do, but there is hope in decreasing that jiggle using the same exact exercise as above that reduces your jowls. So, with that one exercise you have a win-win for both your jowls and your sagging neck. However, one way to prevent your neck from sagging to begin with is to treat your face the same way you do your neck.
morning and evening ritual
Every morning and night when you wash and moisturize your face, do the same thing for your neck and chest. This will keep your neck and chest from growing older when your face continues to look younger. If you are using some type of skin toner on your face each day, just use a little more and make sure you cover your neck too.
daily exercise for your skin
To erases some of those fine lines on your face, try this one exercise daily. Smile without parting your lips and put your index fingers on the corners of your mouth. Push the corners of your mouth up and hold it that way for about twenty seconds. Do this ten times and you’ll begin to see some results in a few days.
when applying moisturizer

Another great rule of thumb to help decrease the lines on your face are that when you apply your moisturizer always push the skin in an outward motion. Rub toward your hairline or down toward your chest to help “rub” the wrinkles out of your skin.
over-the-counter products
When you are looking for ways to get rid of sags, jiggles and wrinkles you might even try over-the-counter products to help in the process. If you do, look at the ingredients and make sure you are getting products that are all-natural and won’t do more harm to your skin than good.
