Planning Your Trip abroad
There are probably a lot of things going through your mind. If you are overwhelmed. Don’t be. Take it one step at a time. Now, this is the fun part. The planning stages.
Is it your first time travelling abroad? That’s awesome. I’m so excited for you. You will absolutely love it. There are so many cities, towns, villages, islands to see. When you have your itinerary nailed down to where your dreams have taken you, then it’s time to start planning.
I love the planning stages. Give yourself enough time to plan out your trip. Make an itinerary. After you have booked your flight and accommodations, you will want to start thinking of what you need to take with you. Packing! Yikes!

WHAT YOU NEED TO PACK
* Do you have all travel documents?
* What time of the year are you travelling?
* Where in Europe are you going?
* Will you be travelling while in Europe?
* How long are you going for?
* How many pieces of luggage can you take?
* Do you need new luggage?
* Will you need to buy a travel adapter?
I have created a travel checklist you could use in planning the things you will pack for your trip. But before you start, you need to ask yourself a few questions that will help you move forward:
Do You Have All Travel Documents?
This is the most important thing you need to do first. You need to make sure your passport and visas are up to date. You need to check how many months your passport is still valid after you return home. This is very important. You need to check this with the country’s regulations. Every country is different. Then check with your own country’s travel regulations. Better to be safe than sorry.
What Time of the Year Are You Travelling?
The best time to go is usually in the summer, but if you want to avoid the crazy amount of tourists that visit, you will probably want to consider the spring or late summer to early autumn. If you go in the offseason, you will need a little bit of warmer clothes just in case it gets cool at night.
Where In Europe Are You Going?
Will you be doing any hiking, site seeing, or just going to the beach? This will determine the type of clothing you need to take.
Will you be travelling while in Europe?
Will you be travelling to different locales while in Europe? Will you need to rent a vehicle?
How long are you going for?
Will you be staying for a few days or a few weeks or maybe a few months. You will pack accordingly. If you are going to stay abroad for a while, you will need to take extra clothes. You will probably need a little heavier attire if it gets a little cooler in the offseason.
How Many Pieces of luggage can you take?
You will need to check with your airline to see how many pieces of luggage and carryon you are allowed to take per person. And you need to check the weight of your luggage? My daughter and I were travelling alone one year to Croatia. My son and husband were already there. And we were packing and the weight went over no matter how much I took out. The suitcase itself was heavy. I had to go out and buy new luggage. Learn from my mistake. Lol! You need to be by-the-book when you travel abroad.
Do you need new luggage?
Like I said previously, check the weight of your luggage to see if it will be appropriate for you to travel abroad. There are so many cool pieces of luggage out there. And it was great buying some more luggage. If you have grown up children like I do, they will need their own luggage.
Will You Need To Buy a Travel Adapter?
There are many different types of electrical outlets. Make sure you have the right one for Europe. The best bet is to buy the combination of different electrical outlets in one. We did that as well. It’s your best bet. Like this one:
There a number of items you might need to take with you on your trip abroad. I want to share those items with you from my experiences of travelling to Europe. Some of these are quite important for the security of your important documents.
