It is important to note that when you lay down every night to sleep, your body uses this time to repair itself. If you aren’t getting the sleep you need each night then you are depriving your body of this natural self-repair time. If you don’t think “beauty sleep” is a real thing then you are kidding yourself.

Drink plenty of fluids
We know that keeping the skin hydrated is huge when it comes to keeping your skin looking younger – that’s true when you sleep too. Not only should you drink water before you go to bed, you should also drink at least a full glass of water when you first wake up. Your body has gone for several hours without any water at all so hydrating when you get up can do wonders for your skin.

While You Sleep
However, what can you do when you are asleep to help with anti-aging? You might want to invest in a humidifier. They keep moisture in the air while you are sleeping, which is great for the skin especially in the winter when we have the heat going. You can find them for $30 and up – depending on the size you need to get for the space you have.
Have you ever experienced that dreaded “pillowcase face” when you’ve looked in the mirror first thing in the morning? I think we all have – it’s not a pretty sight and it can take hours to go away which is bad when you have to go to work.
In order to avoid pillowcase face try switching from a cotton pillowcase to one made from silk. It might not sound like much, but it really can make a difference in whether or not you end up with wrinkles on your face. Silk is less likely to absorb oils from your face, keeping it hydrated, and silk is much softer than cotton on your skin. Find a pillowcase that’s 100% silk and making this small change can make a big difference in how you look each morning as well as in the future.
Try This To Get Your Best Sleep
If you aren’t getting a good night’s sleep you are prematurely aging yourself – not just your skin, but the rest of you too. Do you have trouble sleeping at night? Can’t fall asleep or can’t stay asleep once you’ve fallen asleep? It happens to the best of us. Try some of these tips to help you get your best sleep so your body can rejuvenate itself every night.
- Take a warm shower or bath before you go to bed. This can help you relax and keep you relaxed for a while.
- Do a brain dump into your journal to keep all of those thoughts that keep you awake at night.
- Set your bedroom up to be a place that works for sleeping – no television, no phones, blackout curtains, and calming colors to get your mind right.
- Do some bedtime yoga – you can find a ton of this online and it really does help.
- Don’t drink a lot of caffeine after lunchtime.
- Go to bed at the same time every night. This will get your body used to being sleepy at that particular time.
Natural Ways to Ward off Insomnia
Not getting enough sleep each night can contribute to aging well before you should. When you sleep your body uses this time to rejuvenate and repower itself – and if you aren’t sleeping enough or sleeping well then your body doesn’t have time to do what it needs to. Therefore you look older and feel older and no one wants that.

Walk It Out
If you toss and turn once you get into the bed because you simply can’t get to sleep or your sleep is a lot of sleeping, then waking up, then sleeping again, you might want to try taking a walk in the morning when you get up.
If you walk in the morning you are helping your body to reboot so that when it’s time to go to sleep at night your internal clock knows it’s time to sleep. Weird how it works, but several studies have been done and the results show that it does indeed work.
try supplements
You might also want to take a supplement like magnesium to help you fall asleep faster. Because magnesium helps with aches and pains, it is also known to relieve anxiety, and both working together allow you to drift off faster than normal. You can go to bed without being anxious and have your mind flooded with thoughts that might otherwise keep you awake and you also will be pain-free. Talk to your doctor before you take any supplements.
Another great supplement you might like is melatonin – this supplement will help relax your body so that you can fall asleep fast and it helps you stay asleep throughout the night. Your sleep is deeper, therefore, allowing your body the time it needs to rejuvenate so you’ll feel rested and well in the morning. It doesn’t come with the fog you might feel after taking some types of sleeping pills. Again, talk to your doctor before taking any supplements.
try journaling
Try doing a brain dump into a journal each night. Some people like to journal first thing in the morning, but getting all of your thoughts, anxieties, concerns, etc. off of your mind before you lay down at night can help you get a better night’s sleep.

You won’t have all of that excess baggage once you lay down and you likely won’t wake up in the middle of the night wondering if you forgot to do something or worrying about what you have to do the next day. It’s all written down and organized so you can sleep well.
Relax with music
Invest in a noise machine or download a free app that gives you relaxing sounds to help you sleep. You have machines or apps that feature ocean waves, crickets, or other outdoor noises, but some come with a soothing voice that can help relax you so you fall into a deep night’s sleep. It all depends on what you find relaxing so this is a personal choice. Not everyone likes the sound of waves and not everyone will like the sound of crickets. Experiment with what works the best for you.
stop the aging process with sleep
Not getting a good night’s sleep really can have an effect on your aging process. Make sure to get plenty of sleep each night so you can wake up rested and healthy. Give your body the time it needs to repair itself.
